New Work!

This lovely photo is a collaboration with Polished Presence styling, Jay Nodalo behind the lens, and yours truly on hair and makeup.  I must say the styling job Anna did was impeccable and am so thrilled we were able to work together, I highly recommend her if you are in Singapore! And of course, you know I am going to give a shot out to Jay because he is fun to work with, we share a similar aesthetic in beauty shoots and most of all, he lets me run with the makeup/ hair creative part which is a dream come true for a makeup artist.

On Rhianna our model, I test drove Graftobian HD foundation [love it], her complexion had a pink undertone and the foundation worked quite well under the lights, NARS blush was used on her cheeks. Because Rhianna has divine red hair, I decided to use a subtle cool tone on her eyes. The headpiece and outfit were so awesome, the makeup just worked with the elements.

Vidal Sassoon The Movie

It is not often that hair (and makeup professionals) are featured as the main characters in a film – cue in Vidal Sassoon The Movie: How One Man Changed the World with a Pair of Scissors. I, personally, can’t wait to see this, the story revolves around one of my favorite periods in hair/ makeup, the 196o’s. This decade brings photo memories of my mother and aunt N, they were all about the hair, cat eyes and wore with style.

Like many beauty professionals Sassoon started at the bottom and worked his way up, first having his own team and eventually his own salon.  I really liked the trailer, it is a rags to riches tale.  You can see it here.

Favorite Price-friendly UK Beauty Loot

Currently loving these brands, since getting them in April, I have been using them consistently both for myself and clients. Me Me Me just stays on forever, Sleek Palette layers beautifully and Tresemme Matte Powder holds hair like no other. ** I paid for these myself**

  • MeMeMe Nailpolish (Superdrug) – Amazing colours and long lasting, what’s not to like?
  • Sleek Pallette (Superdrug) – Introduced by Nicci Jackson at MUSE, I fell in love with the texture and effect when layered using a cream base. Good value for money plus nice pigment, use them at night for a bold eye, promise your eyes will pop and heads will turn.
  • Tresemme 24hr Sky Plumping Powder (Boots) – Need hair lift and volume? This little pot will help, a LOT. For £6, it is worth every penny. It is brand new and not yet on their website but already in stock in the UK.

Hair and working in the heat

hairSunday I had a test shoot at Marina Barrage with the uber talented Clifford Loh. Outdoor temperature was a hot and humid 34C and because we were trying to avoid the midday time frame, it was decided that hair would be done outdoors. Considering that hair is something that sort of fell on my lap along with nails and other skills I am learning as I go, I am very happy with the results. A high ponytail with a natural hair wrap around, using lots of product because the model’s hair was very fine and smooth. Voila!
