Styling and Makeup Event With Carla K

On August 30th, I had the pleasure to speak at the Carla K style seminar. The event was held at Sauce Bar and Makeup Forever Singapore kindly sponsored the raffle prizes for the lucky winners in attendance (a prize was given to the ladies who volunteered as models during our presentation). At this fdabulous style event Carla led the workshop with essential information about body shape, colors and how to dress according to your personality. While on the discussion of color, we also covered makeup, particularly what products suit Singapore’s humidity, there was huge interest in this topic. This where I took the opportunity to introduce a few of my favorites such as Makeup Forever’s Aqua Waterproof pencils for the eyes, Aqua Rouge lipsticks, the Smokey Eye Palette from MUFE as well as Mist Fix makeup setting spray. After the session wrapped, I stayed longer to answer questions and meet the ladies individually. Needless to say, I enjoyed every minute of it, there los of great questions and everyone loved the products. Stay tuned, as we plan to announce more events in the near future! Thank you to the lovely Carla K for having me.

New Work!

This lovely photo is a collaboration with Polished Presence styling, Jay Nodalo behind the lens, and yours truly on hair and makeup.  I must say the styling job Anna did was impeccable and am so thrilled we were able to work together, I highly recommend her if you are in Singapore! And of course, you know I am going to give a shot out to Jay because he is fun to work with, we share a similar aesthetic in beauty shoots and most of all, he lets me run with the makeup/ hair creative part which is a dream come true for a makeup artist.

On Rhianna our model, I test drove Graftobian HD foundation [love it], her complexion had a pink undertone and the foundation worked quite well under the lights, NARS blush was used on her cheeks. Because Rhianna has divine red hair, I decided to use a subtle cool tone on her eyes. The headpiece and outfit were so awesome, the makeup just worked with the elements.

Fun With Sugarpill Cosmetics

Long ago, I’d been wanting to use the splash of color that is Sugarpill cosmetics in Dollipop matte pink.  The time finally came when I had the opportunity to do a creative test with Milan del Rosario aka House of Style studios.

We had the lovely Vitaliya as our model and created lovely fashion-inspired portraits.  I used mostly Sugarpill cosmetics eyeshadows and gel liner by MAC. Below is a close up:

Tom Ford Wisdom

“Every woman needs a perfectly cut, tailored suit for day; a black cocktail dress; a smoking; a perfect pair of pumps with high heels. The most important key to being well dressed, however, is for a woman to wear something that suits her style and body shape. A woman who is confident and knows what looks best will always look great.”

I love Tom Ford. After I saw his Visionaries documentary on OWN, my admiration for him grew even more. The film has made its way online, a definite must-watch for creative types. He also directed, produced and co-wrote ‘A Single Man’, an acclaimed film with Colin Firth and Julianne Moore.

Tilda Swinton For W

This W‘s August cover oozes personality and fearlessness.  To stand out from the crowd, you need a lot of confidence and this is exactly how I see actress Tilda Swinton, always trailblazing on the red carpet, she does her own thing.  Her makeup and hair always is minimal.

Hair by Malcom Edwards; makeup by Sam Bryant. Fashion: Salvatore Ferragamo’s silk velvet tuxedo jacket and silk blouse; Acne’s silk velvet pants with belt. Patricia Underwood for Chris Benz hat, Sermoneta gloves.

Love Hedonia UK

Hedonia is a fabulous British fashion brand selling a range of clothing sizes 8-14 UK. For their summer lookbook, I had the pleasure of doing makeup and hair for the lovely Jessica from up-and-coming band Fanfair.

On Jessica:

  1. Firstly, I prepped her skin with moisturizer and used MUFE primer.  I made sure she was glowing before I applied MUFE HD foundation which reflects nicely on studio lighting and is a cream based product.
  2. On her eyes, I started with a cream base using Illamasqua Hollow cream pigment finishing a smokey eye look with Urban Decay Naked Pallette.  Jessica’s look had to reflect a daytime feel, nothing too heavy as the dresses were bright, fun and summery.  Under the eyes, there was a dash of MUFE concealer blended from the outer corner and highlighting using MAC. I filled in her brows with a Boots N7 light brown pencil.
  3. Lastly I gave the cheeks a touch of color using a MAC soft pink blusher.  To define Jessica’s lips I used my Smashbox 18 lip pallette, another personal favorite as it photographs beautifully.

A Karl Lagerfeld Film

Part I

Part II

I have a mild but very healthy obssession with Karl Lagerfeld, if you haven’t noticed from my Twitter and Facebook accounts. He embodies art, fashion, photography, a little crazy and oozes many things I love in the male species. And we both love Baptiste Giabiconi.  Male models don’t usually catch my fancy but Baptiste does, a lot.  Kristen McMenamy plays a wicked character in this short!

The Tale of a Fairy is a short film imagined, written and directed by Karl Lagerfeld for the 2011/12 Cruise collection, screened at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc at the Cap d’Antibes on Monday May 9th 2011.  Starring Anna Mouglalis, Chanel ambassadress, Amanda Harlech, Kristen McMenamy, Freja Beha, Bianca Balti, Baptiste Giabiconi, Brad Koening, Jake Davies, Mark Vanderloo, Oriol Elcacho, Sébastien Jondeau, Seth Kuhlmann, among other friends of the House.

It is a movie about an ill-advised use of money which begins with violence and ends with feeling” Karl Lagerfeld, May 2011
