Styling and Makeup Event With Carla K

On August 30th, I had the pleasure to speak at the Carla K style seminar. The event was held at Sauce Bar and Makeup Forever Singapore kindly sponsored the raffle prizes for the lucky winners in attendance (a prize was given to the ladies who volunteered as models during our presentation). At this fdabulous style event Carla led the workshop with essential information about body shape, colors and how to dress according to your personality. While on the discussion of color, we also covered makeup, particularly what products suit Singapore’s humidity, there was huge interest in this topic. This where I took the opportunity to introduce a few of my favorites such as Makeup Forever’s Aqua Waterproof pencils for the eyes, Aqua Rouge lipsticks, the Smokey Eye Palette from MUFE as well as Mist Fix makeup setting spray. After the session wrapped, I stayed longer to answer questions and meet the ladies individually. Needless to say, I enjoyed every minute of it, there los of great questions and everyone loved the products. Stay tuned, as we plan to announce more events in the near future! Thank you to the lovely Carla K for having me.

Inspiration From Gloria Vanderbilt

It’s been a while since I haven’t done one of these. Inspiration is everything to me.

A few months ago, I picked up a copy of The World of Gloria Vanderbilt, a book about this American lady, her paintings and life story which I highly recommend checking out. Being a huge Anderson Cooper fan is how I came to Gloria Vanderbilt, his beloved and inspirational mother. What hasn’t she achieved in life? She is an artist, perfumista, jean designer, mother, model for Harpers Bazaar and most of all a woman who has reinvented herself over and over (something I relate to very much). This dame also lived such tragedy and deep sorrows in her life from a young age, it is so refreshing to see a person be so full of zest at 88 years old. I urge you to watch her being interviewed by Anderson Cooper or read her book.

Because we are a beauty blog, I also want to bring attention to Ms Vanderbilt’s unique sense of style and her art. Photo credit Gloria Vanderbilt by Richard Avedon for Harper’s Bazaar, 1960’s via

It is National Lipstick Day

To celebrate National Lipstick Day, I’d like to share my ultimate lipsticks, Makeup Forever and Obssessive Compulsive Cosmetics lip tars. If you are ever going to get a lipstick, get yourself either or both! They are worth it. Color will last, trust me on this one. Lipstick can save the day and makes a gorgeous statement all on its own.

Anna dello Russo Wisdom

“Invent your job. Anything can be [possible] now.”

I just read a fabulous interview with Anna dello Russo in IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers). It was a hugely inspirational read. Anna Dello Russo is currently the Editor At Large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan.
She is quirky and unique which is why I love her. Another thing I really enjoy is her rules/ quotes section on her website, they are so good and definitely full of sound advice.

Faces of NYFW Fall 2012

Ever since I got into makeup, every fashion week I am checking my Twitter feed and looking at Tumblr blogs and now Pinterest boards. Why? I observe trends, color and everything that is current in makeup/ hair/ clothes. For Fall 2012 (or Autumn as it is described in the UK), I noticed a lot of nude/ clean skin, red lips and winged eyeliner in color (Anna Sui with Pat Mcgrath on makeup).

From the gallery above on the left is the Proenza Schuler runway, center is Diesel and right is Christian Siriano.

I also noticed more and more Asian models. Someone told me this week in Singapore, there aren’t enough Asian girls in fashion. While some of it may be true, I also think this is evolving for the better (this also includes black, middle eastern and Latina models). Also assembled some Twitpics from backstage, credit is given to Nordstrom Beauty at Michael Kors, makeup genius Pat Mcgrath at Anna Sui and Gucci Westman for Oscar de la Renta.

Grammys 2012 = Lashes Were A-Plenty

It was all about the lashes and glamourous eye makeup at the biggest night in music, the Grammys.

I can’t wait to see the actual beauty breakdowns and makeup artist details but for now the images will have to do. One thing was for certain the ladies of music were dressed to impress with lovely makeup and big hair. My favourites were Adele, Alicia Keys and Carrie Underwood. This is how you do it on a night out, making a statement. I loved the lashes on both Carrie Underwood and Adele, it looked like a combination of individual extensions and cluster lashes.

Madonna Half Time Superbowl Performance

Electrifying. Triumphant. Perfection. Legend. Professional. Fresh. (Some of the comments from my Twitter feed).

Did you catch the Halftime Superbowl performance? OMG are my words to summarize, Madonna is 50 something, this lady does not miss a beat, she moves and dances like noone. I saw the video 10+ hours later as I was working while it was being aired. Twitter was going nuts. When I see an artist so dedicated to their craft, it is a source of inspiration to keep my hustle. I thought the stage was too cool and can only imagine the preparation, costumes, hair, makeup, behind the scenes, etc.

Madonna was dressed in a pair of over-the-knee boots, a black dress by Givenchy with a golden Roman-inspired skirt over the top, and a short cape. According to reports, it the cape was custom made for her [obv].

She wore a She-Ra like golden headpiece custom made by milliner to the stars Philip Treacy.

Bridal Inspiration

When I saw the wedding photos of my dear friend Vaughan and his wife Angela, I gasped for air. I loved the vintage feel. Often times people ask me for advice on wedding details, so here is one I’d like to showcase because knowing them makes it all that much more special and they worked on every aspect to make it stand out.

With their blessing here is a little info on the nuptials; Angela made her bouquets from old brooches she found in shops, online, and in Goodwill. One of the cute details of the bride’s bouquet were drapped buttons that were from her great – great grandmother’s dress. The bride’s Alfred Angelo dress was off the rack, hair was swept sideways in an updo and makeup was by MAC. Vaughan’s suit was super stylish and different (I expected nothing less). The couple lives in South Florida so a 3-piece suit was not the obvious choice, the groom chose a vested grey ensemble, blue shirt, fedora and the men in the bridal party including the groom wore Chuck Taylor’s!

The couple did all the signs, flower arrangements, and I imagine thought of the mini Patron bottles given to the guests. The ceremony was held at an old school square in Delray Beach. A New Orleans style jazz band marched all the guests to the reception which was held at a restaurant called DaDa dating to 1924. The party revellers continued the celebration at Delux in Delray Beach were a band entertained everyone. Last but not least, the images were captured by Steve Lawson – he did an amazing job. Congratulations once again!!!

Lana Del Rey

Lana del Rey has been on the glitterati buzz for a while, her song Video Games is so beautiful, it is worth a post. I also encourage you to go to her website and see the video for Born To Die. PS. I, too, want my own music video with a throne chair and the two tigers, please.

She reminds me of the coolness of Regina Spektor and depth of voice of Natalie Merchant On her Facebook she is described as Hollywood pop / sad core – too cool for school.
