Favorite Everyday Products

Here is a breakdown of my favorite every day products, the kind you can’t live without (mascara and tinted moisturizer) plus eye makeup remover when I get home.

1) Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 (Sand) – a lightweight, reasonable coverage tinted moisturizer. This is an all day product which for the most part DOES NOT oil up or get creased. I love its texture, this blends smoothly into skin and evens out quite nicely. Perfect for Singapore weather (also great in humid and dry weather).

2) Lancome Hypnose Mascara (Black) – this was a tip from a wonderful client a few weeks back. I was at a job and this super nice client pulls Hypnose out of her makeup bag and tells me to see her lashes after three coats. SOLD. The results were lush, full bodied lashes, after a bit of brushing out excess I so impressed with the length effect, I placed my order the same evening.

Later on when it is time to remove mascara or waterproof eye products …

3) Makeup Forever Sens’Eyes (Waterproof eye makeup remover) – the best makeup remover for sensitive eyes and waterproof anything (mascara, eyeshadow, eyeliner, gel liner). This formula will clear those pesky makeup traces and won’t leave you racoon-eyed the next morning. And it comes in a handy small bottle which travels well I might add.

Loving These Products

Makeup Forever All Mat Primer – What a lovely item to have for both a consumer and a pro artist. I recently got my hands on it at the MUFE Singapore Pro Store. Living in humid conditions and working with bridal clients, MUFE (short for Makeup Forever) All Mat Primer is a formula that absorbs oil and like the name says, helps the skin stay matte after foundation and blusher. The mat primer can be used on the T-zone (Forehead and nose) and if you have very oily skin. Of course, all really depends on the specific needs (redness, flaky, acne-prone are separate conditions that don’t necessarily happen at once and may not need just a primer). Highly recommend this for your makeup bag.

Maybelline Volum’ Express Magnum Ultra Comb mascara – I blogged about this new product a few weeks ago, it’s fantastic and fuss free I’ve been using it daily since it was given to me. The comb applicator glides on without the usual clump, two coats after a good lash curl, and your lashes look defined and thicker. Truth is I’ve always been a firm believer that mascara doesn’t need to cost tons to be good and Maybelline never disappoints with their mascaras. *This was a gift at the Maybelline event.

Makeup Forever HD Blush MICROFINISH CREAM BLUSH
– I didn’t intend to buy a blusher, honestly. In saying that, when I tried this paste-like formula on myself I was awed by the application and pigment, and of course I ended up buying one to change up the bronzer. Ever since cream blushes hit the market, I’ve been really into them. This particular MUFE HD blusher is matte (horray, means it has a good chance of staying on for a while and will still look good on camera). To apply it you can use a foundation brush or a stipling brush, put a tiny bit in your hand and work fast.

A Maybelline Event

Ask and you shall receive. The universe must have been listening. On Pinterest, Maybelline 24HR Cream Shadow is on my wish list. Imagine the excitement when I received an invite to a blogger event on Sat Feb 25th at the lovely Covelli Italian Bistro at Orchard 313.

The event was a nice lunch and the unveiling of new products for the Asian market. The new goodies launched were Volum’ Express Magnum Ultra Comb mascara (WOW, love this super slick comb, it pretty separates the lashes much like a real comb, thickens them with no mess AND is waterproof), BB cream SPF 50 (music to my ears, excellent for under eyes and eye area – I don’t use BB all over since it tends to be overload for my skin), Maybelline Masterlight White pencil (for brightening eyes), and Maybelline Jelly Blushers in #02 and #04 colors (cream blush with soft texture and not greasy at all). See the cool gifts on my goodie bag?

This event had a fashion show, a presentation by a makeup artist and lastly a chance to learn more about these new products. As a makeup artist from a non-Asian background in skincare, it is fantastic to learn trends and product preferences here in Asia (BB cream and lashes/ mascara rank high on the list in my opinion). I had a lovely time observing, learning and listening.

Thank you Maybelline SG! I am loving my new goodies, the mascara is a MUST HAVE.

A Beauty-fied Box

Today a box of goodies arrived from Vanity Trove! Several products in sample size came in this super elegant package. Vanity Trove is a new service launched in Singapore offering high end skincare and makeup to your doorstep, customers will receive a beauty box every month for a a fee of $25 SG. A personalised beauty profile can be created when you join so that samples can be catered to specific wants and needs.

Now the moment of suspense, what was in the box? First of all, coffee beans from a place called Danns Daily – I live for my cuppa of Joe and will definitely try this place in Bedok (fairtrade, organic and all brewed with alkaline water).

Since it is few days away from NYE and naturally I plan to kill it with my makeup/ beauty regime pre and post game, tonight I have a beauty assignment cut out for me. It will include trying the SK-II Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser (really looking forward to this!), SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion followed by Snail Street AC Trouble Mask, a product that promises pore, oil and trouble care for the face. Finally, I shall put on the Lancome Genifique Youth Activator before retiring to bed.

I should also mention there is also a Virtuose mascara sample by Lancome and Skinc Reinforce Ceramide (plus a $50 voucher). Thank you Vanity Trove!!!!

Lash Extensions Aftercare

I am often asked on how to look after your new set of individual semi permanent lash extensions.  Alas, the answer is not a one-size fits everyone.  The best piece of aftercare is to avoid getting your eyes wet for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive/ sealant to properly set.

Do you put on a lot eye makeup and use a water based makeup remover?
[If you do, avoid rubbing or using lash curlers excessively].  Do you frequent sauna/ steam room or take hot showers?  Heat loosens the bond in the extensions.

One piece of advise I give all my clients is, do not use oil-based makeup removers or waterproof mascara or any mascara unless it is water-based, this will breakdown your eyelash extensions adhesive. (The main ingredients in all mascaras is pigment, oil and wax).  For an extra pizzaz, I always do a coat of lash tint, this will add fullness and drama – you won’t need any mascara unless you want to look like Kim Kardashian.  **She uses cluster lashes, false lashes and at least 2 coats of mascara.

Lastly, everything will depend on your natural eyelash lifecycle, some grow faster than others but typically a retouch is needed by at least every 4-weeks.  There is no damage to your natural lashes at all and if you’ve had this in the past, chances are you have had an allergic reaction to the adhesive used.  The eyes have it: Bold, beautiful lashes are the latest trend and individual extensions will make your eyes pop without makeup or much daily upkeep needed!
