A Maybelline Event

Ask and you shall receive. The universe must have been listening. On Pinterest, Maybelline 24HR Cream Shadow is on my wish list. Imagine the excitement when I received an invite to a blogger event on Sat Feb 25th at the lovely Covelli Italian Bistro at Orchard 313.

The event was a nice lunch and the unveiling of new products for the Asian market. The new goodies launched were Volum’ Express Magnum Ultra Comb mascara (WOW, love this super slick comb, it pretty separates the lashes much like a real comb, thickens them with no mess AND is waterproof), BB cream SPF 50 (music to my ears, excellent for under eyes and eye area – I don’t use BB all over since it tends to be overload for my skin), Maybelline Masterlight White pencil (for brightening eyes), and Maybelline Jelly Blushers in #02 and #04 colors (cream blush with soft texture and not greasy at all). See the cool gifts on my goodie bag?

This event had a fashion show, a presentation by a makeup artist and lastly a chance to learn more about these new products. As a makeup artist from a non-Asian background in skincare, it is fantastic to learn trends and product preferences here in Asia (BB cream and lashes/ mascara rank high on the list in my opinion). I had a lovely time observing, learning and listening.

Thank you Maybelline SG! I am loving my new goodies, the mascara is a MUST HAVE.

Lash Extensions Aftercare

I am often asked on how to look after your new set of individual semi permanent lash extensions.  Alas, the answer is not a one-size fits everyone.  The best piece of aftercare is to avoid getting your eyes wet for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive/ sealant to properly set.

Do you put on a lot eye makeup and use a water based makeup remover?
[If you do, avoid rubbing or using lash curlers excessively].  Do you frequent sauna/ steam room or take hot showers?  Heat loosens the bond in the extensions.

One piece of advise I give all my clients is, do not use oil-based makeup removers or waterproof mascara or any mascara unless it is water-based, this will breakdown your eyelash extensions adhesive. (The main ingredients in all mascaras is pigment, oil and wax).  For an extra pizzaz, I always do a coat of lash tint, this will add fullness and drama – you won’t need any mascara unless you want to look like Kim Kardashian.  **She uses cluster lashes, false lashes and at least 2 coats of mascara.

Lastly, everything will depend on your natural eyelash lifecycle, some grow faster than others but typically a retouch is needed by at least every 4-weeks.  There is no damage to your natural lashes at all and if you’ve had this in the past, chances are you have had an allergic reaction to the adhesive used.  The eyes have it: Bold, beautiful lashes are the latest trend and individual extensions will make your eyes pop without makeup or much daily upkeep needed!

Armani, Shu Uemura and Lashem Haul

I’ve been coveting Armani makeup since test driving it at the Citroen and Frederic fashion show.  A bit of an anecdote, a male model from Hong Kong came to my makeup chair armed with his own Luminous Silk Armani foundation and NARS face cream.  Allow me to bust out with a Spanish onomatopoeia, PLOP, surprise, curiosity to see how it photographed.  The results were flawless on his skin!  We chatted about foundations, he commented that in the past, he had breakouts from using other foundations, specifically while working in Thailand. (Not surprised as the amount of counterfeit cosmetics is very high in places like Bangkok).  However, it was clear to me that he was very happy with Armani so I had to find out for myself.

For myself, I was in the market for a matte foundation, something different to try in the Singapore humidity.  *Typically I use a combination of concealer, tinted moisturiser and for night time definitely liquid foundation to even out skin.  At HK Airport Duty Free I went gaga over Face Fabric Number 2 by Armani and Eyes To Kill 5 (Gold blitz) eyeshadows, sadly most of the shades I needed were out of stock.

At the airport, I got a great deal with a friend buying the famous Shu Uemura lash curlers, it was a double pack, we split the cost so each curler came out to $14SGD.  Win-win. These are priced at $32 for ONE at the local Shu Uemura counter.

Lastly, my lashes are a little sad due to some crazy adhesive that stayed on my eyes for weeks (no, it was not individual lash extensions, those don’t make your lashes fall out excessively).  I found Lashem and have been using it since four days ago. The natural ingredients and the fact that it is Paraben-free and hypoallergenic were enough for me to give this product a try.  In a few weeks time, once my lashes grow, I will report on the progress and whether or not, this is the holy grail in lash growth assistance.

What are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are  lashes that last approx 2-3 weeks. Not your average stick on lashes, these are individual lashes that are attached one by one to each lash creating a fuller, longer set of lashes. For many ladies who love a full set of eyelashes and a more dramatic (or natural) effect, eyelash extensions  are the way to go. When applied professionally they do not damage the natural eyelash which can be the case with traditional self applied false eyelashes.

If you have a special event it is recommended having these put on 2-3 day to allow for any initial fall out and then they can be topped up the day before. When professionally applied these feel just like your own!

Starting May 2011 this is a service I will be able to offer. In April I will be training and getting certified in the UK by very highly skilled professionals – stayed tuned.
